UK Hit by Record Spring Heatwave Amid Europe Temperature Spike
The historic heat wave in spring is affecting Western Europe, with Britain breaking records set in the 1920s twice consecutively within a few days. This is despite the country experiencing its first ever "tropical night" when temperatures remained above 20°C. According to experts, the current conditions can be blamed on a "heat dome" phenomenon exacerbated by global warming. The unusual warmth has proven fatal, with 11 fatalities being reported so far, especially due to drowning since people are plunging into waters that are not under supervision in an effort to escape the heat.
